Bone On Bone Is NOT The End!

Somebody tell your surgeon :)

I'll go ahead and say it:

Surgeons piss me off sometimes.

As a strength coach, I would never dream of telling a surgeon which scalpel to use or which gauge suture is appropriate for a given procedure.

It's not my expertise, so my opinion isn't worth much.

You would hope surgeons could approach strength training with the same humility and avoid making sweeping generalizations about is and isn't possible through exercise (unless they specialized in sports medicine, like my incredible surgeon did).

But they usually don't.  Not even close.

In fact, given what I hear from prospective clients every week, most surgeons seem to think they know quite a lot about strength training, especially when it comes to whether or not osteoarthritis can be halted or even reversed with exercise.

In short, a lot of them say it can't.  Period.  End of story.

And THAT pisses me off.

The sheer arrogance of declaring something as common and widespread as osteoarthritis "incurable" in practically every case should send off red flags to anyone capable of typing "osteoarthritis" into Google.

If you do, you'll quickly learn there are several stages of osteoarthritis: Stages 1 through 4.

Of these, all but Stage 4 has been clinically proven to be highly responsive to strength training.

In fact, exercise remains the best non-drug, non-surgical treatment known for Stage 1-3 osteoarthritis.

And yet, over and over I get clients coming to me saying "My doctor said I have 'bone-on-bone' and there's nothing I can do."

Let's call out this bullshit right now:

"Bone-on-bone" is NOT a clinical term whatsoever.

"Cartilage thinning" is what they're actually referring too, and the dreaded "bone-on-bone" diagnosis can start as early as Stage 1, long before surgery should even be discussed as an option.

Every day I talk to people on the list for joint replacement and the first thing I ask for is an MRI readout.  Without fail, nearly every damn one of them is in Stage 3 or less while being told they need surgery "at some point."

Here's my take: such doctors should have their licenses revoked.

They're either so utterly ignorant of even the most basic research on exercise-based OA intervention or...

...I'll let you decide why a person selling surgeries might intentionally leave out the many ways a person could avoid getting one.

For context, my last couple MRIs revealed Stage 1 and 2 osteoarthritis in both of my ankles, knees, and hips.

This means I very likely have "bone-on-bone" to some degree across several of my joints.

And here's me doing pain-free sissy squats last month:

Yep, gonna need replacements soon...

The fact is, the medical system preys on ignorance.

Thank god we have one, but you have to arm yourself with knowledge to avoid getting taken for a ride.

I specialize in this type of knowledge, and I also show you how to use it to do what doctors can't.

So the next time one of them tells you such knowledge doesn't exist, I want you to show them the picture above and walk out of the office.

Then I want you to put ALL of your hope, energy, and will behind a daily joint repair & mobility practice.

A few months later I want you to walk (with far less pain) back into their office and show off your 'miraculous' recovery.

Apparently, they need a bit more education.  Provide it to them.
