A lot of slow for a bit of fast...
Active hobbies of all kinds - from gardening to parkour - hurt.
They deplete our strength, wear and tear on our joints, and are, by nature, somewhat unpredictable.
That's what makes them FUN.
But fun has a price and the faster you play, the higher the cost.
To keep playing quickly as you age, you have to accept that it damages your body and prepare accordingly.
If I could go back and help 20-year old Sean understand this, I would give him this practical advice:
"Prepare to play in a 10 to 1 ratio."
This means for every minute I move dynamically, I would have to sink at least 10 minutes into slow, joint-focused mobility:
This undoubtedly would have resulted in better performance and fewer injuries....
...but I still would've gotten hurt. Because play always hurts.
The COST, however, could have been much lower.
The sooner YOU accept this and apply the 10 to 1 rule, the better you'll feel and the longer you'll play.
You're not BROKEN. You just need to MOVE BETTER.
