Words That Heal: "Butts n' Guts"

The Power Center

Here are the steps to instantly improve your balance, agility, impact tolerance, and overall mind-body connection:

Step 1: Squeeze your glute and core muscles when you move.

That's it.  Don't overthink it.

A lot of joint repair is just adopting better habits of movement.

Intentional engagement of the core and glute muscles during "normal" activities is the lowest-hanging fruit in this respect.

I've evaluated countless clients with knee and low back pain who also don't engage their glutes and core as they walk and perform chores.

They're often shocked to find the moment they do, everything becomes easier.

That's because the glutes and core (what I call "butts n' guts" when cueing it in classes) are the most powerful and important group of muscles in the body - they stabilize our center mass, absorb ground forces, provide leverage for lifting & carrying, help pump high volumes of blood through our system as we move, and more.

In other words, you're supposed to squeeze your butts n' guts whenever you do practically ANYTHING.

It's literally what they're designed for.

You're not BROKEN. You just need to MOVE BETTER.
