Words that heal: "Microworkouts"

A little goes a LONG way...

"I don't have time."

This is the top reason people give for not healing and moving well again, and it's a good one.

We're all busy. We all have responsibilities.

Perfectly understandable, totally relatable.

Just one problem: If you don't make time to care for your joints, they'll get worse.  Simple as that.

Good thing, then, that science has proven what coaches have always known: a good practice doesn't require lots of time if it's targeted and consistent.

Enter "microworkouts."

Microworkouts are based on the fact that the body begins responding to exercise stress within seconds.

That is, virtually any movement of sufficient intensity and specificity can trigger the same biochemical processes of growth and adaptation that longer workouts do with just a couple minutes of stimulation over a day.

This is why we advise clients with genuinely busy lives, or who are going through a particularly time-intensive situation - moving to a new home, caring for a sick loved one, delivering a large work project, etc. - to maintain their practice by slipping several 30-60 second "movement snacks" into their day.

If done frequently enough (3-4x/day for a specific movement/exercise), they can realize progress like they would in a longer workout.

This is especially true of joint repair/mobility movements, which mostly don't require equipment and are intended to be low- to moderate-intensity.

Are microworkouts sufficient for resolving serious joint issues?

In my opinion, no.

Prioritizing joint repair with dedicated 30-45 minute workouts at least 3x/week is still preferred when dealing with severe/acute conditions like end-stage osteoarthritis or a torn meniscus.

However, knowing that microworkouts will, at worst, keep your joint function from regressing, is priceless knowledge in itself.

And it eliminates the time excuse forever.

Want me to give YOU a couple ideas for microworkouts you can slip into your day?  Respond to this email with a specific joint issue you're having and I'll send you back a video response.

Cheers :)
