Aging Is A Skill

Are You Good At It?

I'm not terribly old, just 43.

But that's old enough to have learned a few things, especially when it comes to my profession.

One thing I've learned from obsessing over joint repair this long is that "aging" doesn't simply mean "getting older."

Getting older is typically associated with decline, especially in this culture.

But it doesn't have to be.

Getting older can and should be associated with getting better - learning from mistakes, healing old wounds, accruing wisdom, etc.

In other words, aging is a skill.

I get better at aging all the time. I know this because of:

-The relative LACK of pain in my body compared to my 20s and 30s

-The EFFICIENCY of my movements throughout the day, whether I'm practicing jumps, coaching clients, or putting away dishes. I do MORE while trying LESS.

-The consistent JOY I get from my practice. There's less ego and more childishness (the good kind).

-The growing number of SKILLS I possess.  I've learned how to do more things in the past 10 years than the first 30.

There's plenty more, but you get the idea.  Time catches us all, but until it catches me I intend to use my aging skills to get better at living right up to the end.
